Giving Tuesday

A Giving Tuesday Story

Because Every Life Deserves a Chance at Blackford County Animal Shelter

At Blackford County Animal Shelter, every animal who walks through our doors arrives with a story—and a simple hope that their story isn’t over yet.

Some come from loving homes that fell on hard times. Some are found abandoned, scared, and unsure of humans. Others arrive sick, injured, or so young that they need round-the-clock bottle feeding just to survive. No matter how they arrive, we make one promise to each of them:

You will be safe here.

We are proud to be a no-kill shelter, but behind that promise is a reality most people never see. Every year, we take in hundreds of cats and dogs, far more than our small rural shelter was ever designed to handle. We stretch ourselves to the limit to make sure every pet gets the care, medical attention, and time they need to find a home.

And the truth is… that mission is getting harder.  Can our shelter pets count on you?

We need your monetary donation on Giving Tuesday. Your support goes to:

Rising Veterinary Costs
Spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines, heartworm tests, emergency treatments, antibiotics, and special-needs care—these costs have nearly doubled in the last few years. Many of the animals we take in need immediate medical help to simply begin their journey toward adoption.
Supplies Are More Expensive Than Ever
Food, litter, cleaning supplies, bedding, and basic care items continue to rise in price. When dozens of new pets arrive in a single week, those supplies disappear fast.
Our Staff Is Stretched Thin
We are a small shelter doing the work of a much larger one. Our staff and volunteers pour their hearts into caring for every animal, but the emotional and physical toll of being a no-kill facility—where every life matters—grows heavier each year.

Yet despite the challenges, we refuse to give up on them. Because when we see a once-frightened dog finally wag their tail…

When a kitten who arrived cold and helpless grows strong enough to purr…

When an older pet, overlooked for months, finally finds their forever family…

We are reminded exactly why we fight so hard to remain no-kill.
But we cannot continue this mission alone.
This Giving Tuesday, We Need You.
Your donation directly supports:
Lifesaving veterinary care
Food, litter, and daily essentials
Warm shelter during the cold months
Compassionate staff who care for these animals every single day
The ability to say “yes” to the next animal in need
Every dollar helps keep our no-kill promise alive.
Every gift saves a life.
Every act of kindness gives hope.

Today, you can be the reason another animal gets a second chance. On this Giving Tuesday, please consider supporting the Blackford County Animal Shelter.
Together, we can continue to stand strong for the animals who have no one else.
Because every life matters—and every life is worth saving.
